Throughout the month of August I will be taking part in a poetry challenge. Today’s challenge is to quickly jot down four verbs, four adjectives, and four nouns. Write a poem using all 12 words.

The words I jotted down were: hurts, ran, feel, guessed, big, scary, loud, distracting, idea, listening, elephant and pen.

This person, that I am here, it hurts, it isn’t really me.
It’s distracting, the idea, that they will never see.
The world here, is big and sometimes it can feel scary,
The quietest nudge to my confidence can feel loud and lairy.
I guessed, I would fail and I’m sure it will come to be true.
I ran away, with a feeling, but I always come back to you.
You’re distracting, off-balance, say you’re something – but you’re not.
You’re listening, to my idea, but somehow you forgot.
Here I am, the elephant in this room, once again,
I can’t stay here, anymore, so I’ll pick up my pen.

I really struggled with this challenge, did I do OK?!
