Throughout the month of August I will be taking part in a poetry challenge. Today’s challenge is to take a walk until you find a tree you identify with, then write a poem using the tree as a metaphor for yourself or your life.

This tree stretches towards the sky, always reaching for something just out of sight,
But it will reach it when the time is right.
This tree grows outwards, bark stretching and looking for the next hand to hold,
And once it finds it, they will grow old.
Will I be always reaching for the next dream, lost in the in between?
Will I forever need to hold your hand, to keep me balanced in this land?
This tree, is not the best tree, it’s not the perfect tree.
It might be hollow, but it’s free.

I am bad at metaphors. Do you like using metaphors in your writing?
